24/25 Introducing Creative Practice Week 2-Randomness,Ideas,Data and Information

In this class, we need to learn some knowledge about randomness and some data processing. At the beginning, the teacher asked us to share some homework from the previous class. We showed some materials collected from our homework and some pictures we drew in class. Then the teacher talked about an art work about dots. There are many dots of different colors on this work.

Then in the next activity, each of us had a colored pen to take turns to dot on the same white paper. Then we also created a similar work. I found that some students like to dot in some specific positions, such as the center or the corner. When we draw this dot, we will choose some empty positions on the white paper to draw it so as not to squeeze the dots into one piece.

After completing this work, the teacher asked us to think carefully about what we found in some of the dots we drew. Some students said that some dots can be connected into a straight line. Some students said that several dots can be connected into a triangle or a star. Then, the teacher gave some examples on maps in reality to illustrate that there are also some settings in reality that are related to this, such as the settings of some cities like the picture below.

This picture shows the distribution of some cities. If you connect them into a line, you can see that it is a relatively complete and planned shape. The two straight lines here form a vertical effect. Someone must have deliberately planned it like this. So these are some real-life examples. Then the teacher talked about a few more examples. The American rainfall product dataset, the Enron simulator, and paperclips are all examples related to some statistical data.

In the second hour, some interesting designs were discussed in Stupid hackthon. There are some videos about some nonsensical designs of others and some interesting designs. There is a case in which a computer can recognize the movement of two people’s eyes and then play electronic table tennis.

After talking about this, we went to the next activity. The teacher would use software on the computer to randomly generate an object and then let us think about what this object can be used for. We were told that we must think out of the box, such as a rubber band. The most common use of rubber bands is to tie things. My idea at the time was that rubber bands can be used as bullets that can be shot out from our hands after a circle. Rubber bands can be used to lock doors. Then we were asked to think about some other uses of tape and forks.

In the last hour. The teacher talked to us about in-depth research on the topic. This is also a task to be completed this week. You can think of a direction you want to go to based on some pictures you took before, such as some house numbers, circles, squares, etc. You can collect these materials in detail. The teacher also showed us some videos he recorded during a trip and edited them into a video. It was very interesting. There is only ambient sound in this video, and you can hear many kinds of sounds from this video. I plan to collect some circular patterns.

This is some of the materials I collected about circles.
